Hello! My name is Shelby Alm. I'm new to the Kruse Cougar family and new to elementary education. I graduated from Colorado State University in 2014 with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies, as well as minor in Spanish. I completed my teacher prep program at Western Colorado University this past spring. Between my studies, I worked in a childcare center, and then as a full time nanny for many families. I've also been a yoga teacher for 9 years! It's a dream come true to have my own classroom this year at Kruse and to teach all of my amazing students.
It's important to me that my classroom feel like a home away from home for my students and me. I want my students to feel seen, heard, valued, worthy, and loved. Building and reinforcing classroom culture and community through relationships and social-emotional learning are integral parts of my teaching philosophy, and I believe that the best classroom management happens when students see themselves reflected in the culture and take pride in creating a safe, respectful environment for everyone.
