I am so happy to have your child and your family be part of our classroom this year. It's going to be a great year! I love teaching and have been in the classroom in some way since 1990.
I grew up mostly in Easton, Pennsylvania and went to Susquehanna University to get my undergraduate degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Child Psychology. After graduating, my friends and I decided to jump in our cars for an adventure. We ended up in Colorado and I have never looked back. I fell in love with the majestic mountains, the people, the relaxed speed of daily life, and my husband!
Teaching at a preschool to make ends meet, I fell in love with working with kids. This led me to UNC to get my teaching certificate. I started my teaching career at Kruse Elementary teaching first grade in 1994. I taught first grade for 3 years then moved to literacy at Werner Elementary. As my own kids came along, I decided I needed to stay home to just be mom for a while.
I have 2 children who are both graduates of Kruse Elementary. Both of my children are currently in college in Oregon. Their great experience at Kruse got me involved in education again. Before I knew it - I was back in the classroom teaching kindergarten, and since have moved up to 1st grade which is where I started so many years ago.
I have also taken the time over the years to continue my education and have received a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in Brain Development.
I look forward to a great year together with your child and you! I believe that our classroom at Kruse is an extension of your home community. I strive to create an atmosphere where children feel safe to learn and grow as the individuals that they are. I also feel that the education of your child cannot be successful unless we work as a team. My door is always open, please come on in- anytime!
